Secure by design
We use bank-level security and lead in EdTech data safety. Your students' data stays private, is never sold, and remains under your control.
Your students' data is protected with bank-level security
SchoolAI stores all student data in secure, SOC 2 Type 2 certified data centers with enterprise-grade encryption both in transit and at rest. We use industry-standard AES-256 encryption to protect every piece of information, from student conversations to learning analytics. Our security infrastructure includes 24/7 monitoring, regular penetration testing, and continuous threat detection that matches the protection used for the world's most sensitive financial data. Only authorized school personnel with proper permissions can access student data.
Our SOC 2 Type 2 certification means independent auditors regularly verify that our security controls meet the highest industry standards. Beyond SOC 2, we maintain FERPA and COPPA compliance, and 1EdTech certification. In the unlikely event of a security incident, our comprehensive incident response procedures ensure immediate notification to affected districts within 72 hours, forensic investigation, and full transparency about any potential impact.
Student privacy always comes first
We collect only the data needed for student learning and nothing more. Student information is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train AI models. We maintain strict data processing agreements with every AI provider we partner with that explicitly prevent them from using student data for pre-training or fine-tuning their models. This isn't just a promise, it's contractually enforced with every partner we work with.
When students engage with SchoolAI, their conversations, work, and learning data remain completely private to your school or district. We've built our entire platform around the principle that educational data should only serve educational purposes. Zero advertising, zero data selling, zero compromise on student privacy.
Schools and districts stay in control of their information
Parents and guardians can request to opt their children out of SchoolAI at any time through their school or district administrator. Families have the right to access their child's data, request corrections, and obtain complete data deletion when needed. We provide a clear readable privacy policy that explain exactly what data we collect, why we need it, and how families can exercise their privacy rights.
Schools can configure SchoolAI to restrict access to specific features based on district policies. Whether it's limiting certain PowerUps or adjusting data visibility settings, we work with your community's comfort level to ensure everyone feels secure about how technology supports learning.
Sensitive conversations are handled with care
We understand that students sometimes share personal or sensitive information during learning interactions. SchoolAI automatically flags potential crisis situations for immediate educator review while maintaining strict confidentiality protocols. We're building more customization options so schools and districts can tailor notifications and alerts to reach the specific staff members they choose. These logs are stored according to our data retention policy and can be deleted upon request.
Data that helps improve learning
We retain data to continuously improve our educational experiences and personalize learning for each user. One exciting way we're doing this is through "Memories," a feature coming soon that allows our AI Assistant, Dot, to remember helpful information about you for future conversations. This might include your teaching style, classroom preferences, or learning goals that make each interaction more relevant and valuable.
You'll have complete control over these memories with fine-grained privacy settings. You can review exactly what Dot remembers, edit any information that needs updating, and delete memories you no longer want stored. This ensures that personalization always happens on your terms, with full transparency about what's being remembered and why.
You own your data
Every bit of student data, learning analytics, and content created in SchoolAI belongs entirely to your school or district. We're simply the custodians helping you protect and manage it. This isn't buried in fine print. It's a fundamental principle of how we operate.
You can export all your data at any time in standard formats for your records or analysis. Need to conduct an audit? Request a complete data export. Deciding to leave SchoolAI? We'll ensure complete deletion of all your information from our systems within 30 days of your request, with certification of deletion provided.
Smart permissions that keep the right information with the right people
SchoolAI uses sophisticated role-based access controls that mirror how schools actually operate. Teachers see their students' learning data and conversations. Administrators get school or district-wide analytics. Coaches can view specific classrooms they support. Every access is logged and auditable, creating a complete trail of who viewed what and when.
Our FERPA-compliant workflows ensure that educational records remain properly protected while still enabling collaboration.
AI immediately alerts on sensitive cases
When students share concerning information—whether about mental health, family situations, or safety issues—SchoolAI actually immediately flags these conversations for appropriate school personnel.
Our AI never makes decisions about mandatory reporting or interventions. Those remain entirely with trained educators and counselors. Instead, it ensures critical information reaches the right professionals quickly while maintaining proper documentation for both student safety and legal compliance. The system is designed to support, not replace, your existing safety protocols and reporting procedures.
Third-party integrations meet the same high standards
SchoolAI integrates with trusted education platforms like Rosterstream & Clever for rostering and single sign-on, but we never share student data with third parties for advertising or unrelated purposes. Every integration partner must meet our strict security requirements and sign comprehensive data protection agreements that explicitly prohibit using student data for AI model training or any non-educational purpose.
We maintain a complete list of any third-party services used in our platform, available for district review at any time. Each partner undergoes thorough vetting including continuous security audits and ongoing monitoring to ensure they maintain the same high standards we do.
Our approach has been reviewed by education law experts to ensure alignment with FERPA, COPPA, and best practices for student safety and protection.
Compliance built for education
Education privacy and safety laws aren’t afterthoughts. Legal compliance is built into everything we do. Our FERPA compliance ensures proper handling of educational records. Our COPPA compliance protects younger students. Our 1EdTech certification demonstrates interoperability without compromising security. We also maintain compliance with state-specific privacy laws, adapting our practices to meet the strictest requirements nationwide.
Regular compliance audits verify that we're not just checking boxes but actually protecting student privacy in meaningful ways. Our compliance team stays current with evolving regulations, ensuring SchoolAI remains a trusted partner as privacy laws evolve.
